Dear Colleague:

On April 1, 2001 the new Public information Access Law will be enforced in Japan.
The Law is modelled after the FOIA in US and it is intended to provide both the professionals and the general public with greater access to the previously restricted information held by the Government. Aside from the information to be published officially, a number of documents can be disclosed upon request by individuals and organisations.

Pharmaceutical Affairs is one of the areas where the degree of disclosure is projected to be higher, resulting in a major impact on pharmaceutical companies and regulatory staff. The Office for Disclosure of the Medical Information of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Safety Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) is preparing for the disclosure of the approval dossiers, adverse event reports and other documents currently confidential.

"Jouhou koukai" is Japanese for information disclosure and JOUHOU KOUKAI SERVICES is a new dedicate service for foreign pharmaceutical companies operating in Japan.
For updates, please visit the home page of Jouhou Koukai at < http://home.att.ne.jp/alpha/odrd/ >.

For more information and strictly confidential retrieval of MHLW documents, including summarising and translation services contact out Tokyo office.

Best regards.
